Stash Report July 8, 2018

OK a few months since my last report! But I have a lot of movement in my numbers this time.

All the finishes in this post add up to…

Red Kerchief: 0.125 yds
Thomas Pillowcase: 0.5 yds
Hufflepuff Pillowcase: 1.25 yds
Window Seat cushion: 3.75 yds
Slytherin Pillow: 2 yds

I bought all the fabric I needed to make the two Harry Potter pillowcases, plus I saw some cute things in the fabric bin:

So here’s the breakdown

Used this Week: 7.625 yards

Used year to Date: 20.985 yards

Added this Week: 4.917 yards

Added Year to Date: 25.687 yards

Net for 2018: -4.702 yards de-stashed

Well, at least it’s not 7 yards in the red like last time!

Few Random Finishes

Just a few random finishes, not really quilt related but they did help me get some fabric out of my stash.

First, I made a window seat cushion for my boyfriend’s daughter. I was able to get rid of a lot of leftover batting I have laying around as well as a few yards of fabric, so I’m very pleased about that. I also made her a matching pillow with Slytherin and black fabric:

Next, I made a pillowcase for my boyfriend, also Harry Potter themed but Hufflepuff this time:

Just finished a #harrypotter themed pillow case for my #hufflepuff! It features #deathlyhallows & #hufflepuffcrest printed fabrics! #hufflepuffpride #harrypotternerd #harrypotterforever

I really love how it turned out and he loves it, too! I also made him a handkerchief for father’s day with some fabric I had in my stash. Also, I made my son a pillowcase using some hand-me-down fabric and a bit from my stash.

His bed is now fully Thomas the Tank Engine. He loves it!

I usually don’t do a lot of this kind of sewing so it was fun to finish a few little projects. I really enjoyed making the Hufflepuff pillowcase so I want to try and make more of those in the future.

I’m still plugging away at my to-do list:

  1. Quilt for baby boy 3: I’ve finished piecing the top of the “>Meet Cute Quilt. Now I need to choose a backing, quilt and bind!
  2. Quilt for C: I have decided on a pattern from a book.
  3. Quilt for baby girl 2: I’m making the Diagonal Strip Quilt from Cluck Cluck Sew
  4. Mike’s T-shirt quilt
  5. The Lattice quilt tutorial when I pre-ordered the ombre confetti jelly roll from V and Co.

Thanks for stopping by!

Stash Report May 6, 2018

No quilt finishes for me this week but I have started working on the Meet Cute Quilt from the Moda Bake Shop Blog.

I also bought some new fabric. Up first: the famous ombre confetti fabric by V and Co!

I pre-ordered the jelly roll and it came with a pattern for a quilt I’m excited to make. I also got this fat quarter bundle during another one of FatQuarterShop’s flash sales:

I don’t have any plans for the fabric yet but I think it’s so cute! Let’s take a look at my to do list:

  1. Quilt for baby boy 3: This is the Meet Cute Quilt.

I’ve made a LOT of progress since the beginning of the year! I had eight quilts on my list at the beginning of the year, I’ve finished three quilts, dropped one and added one. I feel pretty good about that.

Unfortunately, my fabric splurges have really messed with my stash numbers this week. I plan on finishing the Meet Cute Quilt this month, unfortunately it used mostly scraps so it won’t show much movement in my numbers.

Used this Week: 0 yards

Used year to Date: 13.36 yards

Added this Week: 7.27 yards

Added Year to Date: 20.77 yards

Net for 2018: -7.41 yards de-stashed

Indigo Triangles Quilt Finish

When I first saw this quilt, I really admired the colors and the pattern seemed simple enough. Upon further inspection, all the matching points started to make me nervous. I’ve never been really good at matching points or seams, if I’m being honest. But I decided I wanted to try and push my boundaries, push my limits, and I’m glad I did. It forced me to be a little more careful and deliberate with my worth rather than the loosey-goosey, fly by the seat of my pants approach I’ve used until now.

When I initially cut all the triangles, I had these which I shared on instagram…

All my many triangles cut for @cluckclucksew’s #indigotriangles #quilt! #quilting #bluefabrics #babyquilt

When I put the triangles on my design wall, it was a disaster.

I decided that there were too many printed blue fabrics, so I dove back into my stash and got some more that were closer to solids. The result was much better, in my opinion. The result is less indigo than my inspiration picture but I worked with what I had and I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.

The quilt finished 41″x43″.

I did straight line quilting along the triangles and I’m really happy with how it turned out. It looks really sharp.

I used a bunch of the left over scraps from the front and some of the rejected triangles on the backing. I even used some leftover triangles from Blue Diamonds. It looks really scrappy and maybe a little crazy, but I was happy to use up the scraps.

Check out that pretty blue polka dot binding! Over all I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. On to the next!

Foundation Paper Pieced Baby Girl Quilt

I started this quilt last year on a whim when I saw a tutorial for paper pieced blocks making its way around the internet. You can find the tutorial here. I had so much fun piecing these blocks, I’d like to do another one of these quilts in the future.

I finished putting the top together back in January, but put it on the shelf so I could put together another quilt for a baby shower I was invited to. Then I started on another quilt for a baby that was already born. That quilt ended up being Indigo Triangles. Now, the baby that this quilt is intended for is set to make her entrance into the world in the next couple of weeks, so I decided to quilt & bind it at the same time as I quilted & bound Indigo Triangles. Here’s the finished product.

The quilt finished at 41″ square.

I did a simple all over stipple for the quilting.

Here’s a peek at the back. I had enough yardage that I didn’t have to piece a backing for once, which helped this come together much more quickly.

Here’s a closer look at some of the blocks. I had fun fussy cutting with the centerpieces. The snoopy, skunk, little girl and yellow rose are my favorites.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by! I’m linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish it Up Friday!

Stash Report April 15, 2015

Can’t believe it’s been almost a month since my last stash report! Believe it or not, I’ve got TWO quilt finishes this week so we’ll be seeing some real movement in my numbers. I’ll be sharing those posts once the gifts make it to their recipients.

I didn’t buy too much fabric this week, just two mini-charm packs. One was more Hushabye Hollow prints (oops, I forgot I had already bought a charm pack of that) and I bought a mini charm pack of Midnight Garden by One Canoe Two for Moda Fabrics:

Looks really darling, doesn’t it?

Used this Week: 7.86 yards

Used year to Date: 13.36 yards

Added this Week: 0.5 yards

Added Year to Date: 13.5 yards

Net for 2018: -0.14 yards de-stashed

Closer to even!

Stash Report March 18, 2018

I bought quite a bit of fabric since my last report. What can I say, I was weak!

First up, I caught a flash sale on FatQuarterShop.com for this sweet charm pack. I’m always making baby quilts so I thought this would be great for one of those:

Then, I caved to temptation and bought a jelly roll of the V and Co ombre confetti fabric that’s been floating around, the pre-order came with this pattern…

Okay and while we’re at it omBre lattice is now available as a pattern and jelly roll bundle 🙂 . . #ombretastic #ombreconfetti #vandcoombre #ombreconfettimetallic #showmethemoda #modafabrics

So then I had to buy a couple of yards of black and white fabric so I have all I need for the pattern. Plus I found some cute yardage in the remnants bin at JoAnn’s…

I do have a quilt top finished this week but I am not going to count it until the entire quilt is done.

Used this Week: 0 yards

Used year to Date: 5.5 yards

Added this Week: 7.5 yards

Added Year to Date: 13 yards

Net for 2018: -7.5 yards de-stashed

Back in the red!!

When I put the triangles on my design wall, it was a disaster.

It was much, much too busy. I decided that the problem was the prints, so I dove back into my stash and got some more blues that were closer to solids. The result was much better, in my opinion. My quilt ended up being less indigo than my inspiration picture but I worked with what I had and I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. I was very happy to use up some of the blues in my stash. I used up the rest of the whites I had bought for this project to make the border, plus a little from my stash.

Next I’m going to piece together a backing with the leftover triangles and an orphan block from a previous quilt. It will be pretty scrappy looking too. Hopefully not too crazy!

UFO list

I guess this isn’t *technically* a UFO list since not all of these are started, but this helps me keep track of what’s in the works and plans I have for my to-do list.

  1. Quilt for C: need to decide on pattern
  2. Quilt for baby boy 1 Finished! Click here to see it.
  3. Quilt for baby boy 2: working on making this quilt
  4. Quilt for baby boy 3: need to decide on pattern
  5. Quilt for baby girl 1: need to quilt
  6. Quilt for baby girl 2: I’m going to make this quilt, looks like it will be a GREAT stash buster.
  7. Mike’s T-shirt quilt

That’s what’s on my list! I’ve started on the Indigo triangle quilt already. I’ve finished cutting all the triangles…

And now I need to start assembling. I used the white print fabrics I bought in the Feb 4th stash report for the white parts of the quilt, which I think will make it look a little more interesting. The rest of the fabric was from my stash. I’m excited to get started on sewing, but I have a few projects around the house I need to focus on first, unfortunately!

Broken Frames Baby Boy Quilt

Broken Frames is finished!

I used this pattern to make it. The pattern was super easy to follow and it came together pretty quickly, so I was happy about that. It finished at 39″ square. I quilted it using a simple stipple in white thread on top and back and I machined bound the quilt in the same green I used for the frames.

I’m really happy with how this turned out. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a big enough piece of fabric for the backing and no more green (except a dark forest green that didn’t feel right) so I pieced together a bunch of baby fabrics with a left over stripe from piecing the front. I love how it turned out and I love that I was able to get so many pieces out of my fabric stash.

One baby boy quilt down, two to go!
