2008 Emmys

Normally I don’t care too much about the Emmys, but I was glancing through the nomination list this morning and saw some nominations I was excited about:

  1. This American Life • Escape • Showtime • Showtime Presents in association with Chicago Public Radio, Killer Films, Inc., Left/Right, Inc. (Adam Beckman, Director of Photography) for Outstanding Cinematography For Nonfiction Programming, Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Nonfiction Series, Outstanding Picture Editing For Nonfiction Programming, Outstanding Writing For Nonfiction Programming
  2. The Office • NBC • Deedle Dee Productions, Reveille LLC, Universal Media Studios (Producers TBD) for Outstanding Comedy Series, two more noms for Outstanding Directing, a nom for Outstanding Picture Editing For A Comedy Series , Outstanding Sound Mixing, Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series for “Dinner Party,” Steve Carrell was nominated for best Actor in a Comedy Series and Rainn Wilson was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series
  3. Jimmy Kimmel Live • Song: ‘I’m F***ing Matt Damon’ • ABC • Jackhole Industries in association with ABC Studios for Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics (this is kinda harsh since the news just broke a couple of days ago that Jimmy and Sarah are no more)
  4. Kathy Griffin: My Life On The D-List • Bravo • Picture This Television for Outstanding Reality Program. It’s up against Extreme Makeover:Home Edition (hate) and Intervention (which I LOVE) so it’s a tough category.
  5. Kathy Griffin: Straight To Hell • Bravo • Production Partners, Inc. was also nominated for Outstanding Variety, Music Or Comedy Special

Overall, I’m very happy with the list and VERY happy about This American Life getting so much recognition. Yay Ira Glass!!

Heath Ledger is Dead.

heath ledger is deadYet another talented actor dies. I’m really shocked by this one, though. He seemed to have so much promise and was actually getting roles and performing them in ways that were earning him a lot of respect. Everyone can’t wait to see him in Dark Knight. It’s just so sad and tragic, and he has a young daughter as well.

I’ve been checking back at TMZ periodically, seems like they keep on having new developments on this story. So far it’s suspected that he had an accidental overdose.

Actor, My Former Crush Brad Renfro Dead at 25

Brad Renfro Actor and my childhood crush Brand Renfro is dead. He was just 25. It was probably drug-related, he’s been having problems with drugs for a while now.

I can’t remember what movie I first saw him in, but I had a serious crush on him, along with Devon Sawa about 10-12 years ago. While all of my friends were drooling over Johnathan Taylor Thomas in Tom and Huck, I was looking at the bad boy, Brad. I just thought he was so dreamy and sexy. I raided Tiger Beat and the like for his pictures, but it was the era of JTT and his pictures were few and far between.

One weird thing about getting older is that people around you start dying. I know this is kind of silly to think since he’s an actor that I didn’t even know and I’m just 22, but it starts when one is a young adult and keeps going for the rest of one’s life. Kinda depressing.

Anyway, R.I.P. Brad. My heart goes out to all his family and friends that did their best to help him.

WGA Strike Closes Production of ‘The Office’ Down :(

The one thing I was afraid of happening happened: production of The Office has stopped because Steve Carrell refuses to cross the picket lines:

After a 7am call time with a 9am crew call, after standing around for 7 hours at our location waiting for the studio to make a decision once it was realized that Steve Carell would, once again, not be crossing the picket line of the Writer’s Guild picketers, our producer called the entire crew into the set of Michael’s condo and announced that The Office is officially shutting down.

For how long? That’s really up to the producers and studio, I guess. I feel the writers have a valid claim. They want residuals for all content written and produced for “new media” (i.e. internet, itunes, cell phones, etc.) and they absolutely should fight for it because all media will be streamed this way in the future. Truth be told, the writers picketing right now aren’t gonna gain anything. They’re losing so much money by not working right now that any residuals they garner from this new media will never cover it. But that’s not really the point…

So, it sucks for us little people, but I’m not all that annoyed. I fully support the WGA, and the writers of The Office specifically. I wish them luck in their quest.

As for me, it’s back to the unemplyment line and the dayplayer world. Personally, I’m kinda excited. As long as I can keep busy, I’ll be aok and I can meet new people, catch up with old friends and still pay my rent every month.

Until this whole thing blows over anyhow.

That is all.

Thanks for the support and if you need a dayplayer, you best call me. I’m pretty awesome.

From the Myspace blog of Dan Beals, a PA for the Office.

Hopefully they can get all of this sorted out soon 🙁

Shia LaBeouf Arrested

Shia LaBeouf was arrested in Chicago over the weekend for being drunk and disorderly in a Wallgreen’s. I’m not sure why I’m posting about this; I’m not particularly a big fan of his or his work. Maybe it’s because his mugshot is one of my favorites I’ve ever seen (and as it turns out I really like mugshots). Or maybe it’s because in August he told InStyle that he loves celebrity gossip sites, but would never want to appear on one. Sweet justice. :anime: I love Celebrity mugshots, and it’s one of the great disappointments in my life that we haven’t gotten to see a Britney mugshot (yet).

Writer’s Strike

I don’t know if it’s the same everywhere else in the world, but today in LA the big story is the Writer’s Guild of America strike. For now it will only affect somewhat live shows, most of our beloved sitcoms and scripted TV shows (probably) have enough episodes written ahead of time to weather the storm. Movie studios have plenty of scripts waiting to be produced. Honestly, I’m not a big fan of most of the late night talk shows (well, not enough to watch them regularly) and the like, so I don’t think this will affect me. But hopefully it doesn’t last long enough to prevent new episodes of my beloved The Office from airing! 😛

Scientology church before the courts?

Tue 04/09/07 – The chance is real that several leading figures in the Church of Scientology in Belgium could be issued with court summonses. The Federal Judicial Authorities plan to prosecute the church for being a criminal organisation that has defrauded its members.
The judicial authorities opened their investigation into the Scientology movement in Belgium back in 1997, after having received tip-offs from ex-members of the church.

All aspects of the Scientology Church’s practises were gone through with a fine tooth comb.

Now the ten-year investigation has come to a close.

A total of twelve people all from the Belgian branch of the Church of Scientology or from the organisation’s European Bureau stand accused of a list of offences.

Good! Put these people away. This is a damaging and scary cult. :dork:

Did you hear? There’s a new iPod!

But that’s not all. Seems like Apple has updated its whole line of iPods! XD So what’s new, you ask?

The new flagship iPod has “the same size screen as the iPhone, but it’s even thinner” (eight-millimeters, for those taking notes), and it also touts the “same multi-touch interface” found on the firm’s handset. Additionally, it boasts a 3.5-inch widescreen display, the ability to “flick through your photos,” and you even get the “slide to unlock” feature, too. And yes, this thing actually has WiFi. Of note, the built-in wireless antenna isn’t exactly attractive, but if it means that we can surf the web (YouTube included) and buy tunes on our iPod, we suppose it may be an acceptable flaw. As for battery life, the Touch is said to last 22-hours when playing back audio and 5-hours when watching video, but only time will tell how draining web surfing will be. The iPod Touch will be arriving in 8GB and 16GB flavors and will be priced at $299 and $399, respectively, when they ship “worldwide in a few weeks.”

And there’s also a new iPod Nano:

The new units will include 2-inch screens with QVGA resolution, and apparently boast the same quality as the iPod video. The displays have the highest pixel density the company has ever shipped, and it seems the extra-wide players will sport an “enhanced” UI (which looks a lot like the video we saw recently) and its own version of Cover Flow. The nano will come bundled with three games, including a circular-Arkanoid rip-off called Vortex, and apparently you’ll be able to purchase more from the iTunes store. The battery life is fairly impressive as well, with Apple touting 24 hours of playback for audio, and 5 hours for video. The 4GB model will be selling for $149, though it’s only available in silver, while the rainbow-colored 8GB will leave you $199 lighter in the wallet.

And a new classic iPod:

Like the brand new iPod nano, the flagship iPod is also sporting an all-new interface, headlined by Cover Flow. The iPod comes in 80GB and 160GB capacities, with 30 hours of battery for audio playback, 6 hours of video on the 80GB version, and 40 hours / 7 hours for the 160GB unit. In addition to the new interface, the iPod Classic is getting a new all-metal shell, and is selling at $249 for the 80 gigger, $349 for 160.

Thanks Engadget. Which one are you looking forward to? Personally, I think the iTouch is a ripoff for the amount of space they give you. Once I get enough money, I’ll just grab one of the video iPods. Maybe I can get the old ones for cheap somewhere. :star:

Best Cities for Singles

Are you living in the United States? Are you single? Check out Forbes’ list of Best Cities for Singles. Here’s the Top 10:

  1. San Francisco-Oakland
  2. New York
  3. Los Angeles
  4. Atlanta
  5. Chicago
  6. Washington
  7. San Diego
  8. Seattle
  9. Dallas-Fort Worth
  10. Philadelphia

They were judged on “culture, nightlife, job growth, the cost of living alone, online dating, the number of other singles and that ever-elusive quality, cool.” I can totally see San Francisco as the #1 city. :star: It’s such a fun place to be, and there are so many colleges in the area, there is definitely a young people’s vibe there. 😎
