Stash Report August 26, 2018

The last shipment from the Fabric De-Stasahing group on Facebook came in.

I got 3.5 yards from the Garden Party by Studio E fabric line, plus a yard of a cute swan princess print, 3 yards of Folkstone Blue Moon Forest by Dear Stella, and 3 Yuki by Debbie Maddy for Moda Charm Packs. I want to try and make this Singing the Blues quilt by Moda Bake Shop with the Yuki Charm packs. The others… well I just couldn’t pass them up!

I didn’t get anything finished this week, but the Connect Four quilt is coming along. I’ve got all the blocks assembled, now I just need to put the top together.

In addition to getting a ton of fabric in the mail, I also got this!

All set up in my little sewing nook.

Our cat Yoda is keeping an eye on her!

I got a Juki TL-2010Q as part of a Massdrop. I ended up saving about 35% off the list price, I’ve rarely seen these discounted that deeply so I’m pretty happy with the price. I can’t wait to start sewing on it!

Used this Week: 0 yards

Used year to Date: 24 7/12 yards

Added this Week: 10 yards

Added Year to Date: 54 1/12 yards

Net for 2018: -30 1/2 yards de-stashed

I can’t believe I’ve added so much fabric to my stash this year. Really must do more to get fabric out than in!! My to-do list has added another item… the quilt with the Yuki charm packs.

  1. Quilt for C: This is the Connect Four quilt. Follow my progress on my instagram.
  2. Pillow case for ME from Zelda fabric.
  3. Mike’s T-shirt quilt. I may make another t-shirt quilt first so I can practice on shirts that have less sentimental value to me before I risk making a mistake on these shirts.
  4. The Lattice quilt tutorial when I pre-ordered the ombre confetti jelly roll from V and Co.
  5. Singing the Blues by Moda Bake Shop

See you next week hopefully with finishes and no new additions!!

Stash Report August 19, 2018

More fabric incoming from the Fabric De-Stashing group on Facebook! I have cut myself off from buying anything else so incoming fabric should start slowing down. Also, I have started the Connect Four quilt so hopefully I will have a finish for that soon and be able to show some big movement on my numbers.

Here is some new fabric from the Fabric De-Stashing group… this adorable vintage Disney movie poster print. There’s about 3/4 yard here.

I also made a hankerchief for my boyfriend from the Zelda fabric I got in a couple of weeks ago, and cut into the leftovers for his Connect Four quilt, so I’ll go ahead and count that out this week.

Used this Week: 1/4 yards

Used year to Date: 24 7/12 yards

Added this Week: 3/4 yards

Added Year to Date: 44 1/12 yards

Net for 2018: -20 1/2 yards de-stashed

My to-do list is getting smaller!

  1. Quilt for C: This is the Connect Four quilt. If you follow me on Instagram you know I’ve already started on this!

Stash Report August 12, 2018

Here are my numbers this week, with a finish under my belt! Unfortunately/Fortunately (depending on how you look at it!) the last quilt I made was mostly made of fabric scraps from my scraps bucket, which have already been counted as OUT fabric so they don’t get to count again (darn). Pretty much the only fabric I pulled from my stash for the last fabric was used on the backing and binding.

This week I also discovered the Fabric De-Stashing group on Facebook… BEWARE! It is extremely addicting to buy fabric there! This week alone I bought all of this…

One yard of the bottom four, then 1.5 yards, then a Superman panel I plan on putting on the back of the quilt I’m making of my late husband’s t-shirts. He loved Superman so when I saw it I knew it would be perfect for the backing.

Two yards of each of these… I love the black and white triangles! And the soft green with the little tee pees is adorable.

Used this Week: 3 1/3 yds

Used year to Date: 24 1/3 yards

Added this Week: 10 yards

Added Year to Date: 43 1/3 yards

Net for 2018: -19 yards de-stashed

Oh my gosh, I’m so far in the red!! Should I even bother keeping track any more?? lol!

My to-do list is getting smaller!

  1. Quilt for C: I have decided on a pattern from a book & bought the fabric.
  2. Hankie for C from Zelda fabric.
  3. Pillow case for ME from Zelda fabric.
  4. Mike’s T-shirt quilt. I may make another t-shirt quilt first so I can practice on shirts that have less sentimental value to me before I risk making a mistake on these shirts.
  5. The Lattice quilt tutorial when I pre-ordered the ombre confetti jelly roll from V and Co.

Meet Cute Quilt Finish

Another finish under the belt!

This is the Meet Cute Quilt by the Moda Bake Shop Blog. I’ll admit I had some troubles with this one. I tried to be very vigilant about maintaining a quarter inch seam allowance but even so, I had trouble getting the blocks to be the same size. And the blocks ended up being rectangles instead of squares, which made joining them together difficult. It is very colorful though and perfect for a baby. It finished at 52″ square.

I feel a little bad about how late this quilt is. I ended up using a lot of scraps from my scraps bin and about a third of a yard of fabric from my stash for the piecing. The backing was all from my stash, about 3 yards. I had a lot of backing left over actually so I used that to make the binding. I originally planned on having a white binding but I like how the blue turned out. It makes the quilt look a little more boyish.

Here’s a close-up of the fabric on the back. I had this cute Mickey fabric laying around that ended up being perfect for the amount I needed to make the backing just a smidge bigger.

Feels great to have this one done. On to the next!

Stash Report July 22, 2018

Still no quilt finishes under my belt, so no fabric out this week. But boy, sure do have some fabric IN…

From left to right:

  1. 0.833 yd of a cute Parisian themed fabric. My boyfriend’s daughter loves all things Paris so I thought I might try to make something out of it for her.
  2. 1 2/3 yd of this cute triangle fabric. It was actually two remnants, a yard and 2/3 yd. It looks like a cute baby quilt backing or something.
  3. 2/3 yd of this awesome Zelda stained glass fabric! I think I want to make a pillow case of of it for myself. My boyfriend requested a hankie from it, too.
  4. 4.5 yds of this pretty Kona Burgundy fabric. I’m going to use this to make the Connect Four quilt from Country Girl Modern.

That’s a total of

Used this Week: 0 yards

Used year to Date: 20.985 yards

Added this Week: 7.667 yards

Added Year to Date: 33.354 yards

Net for 2018: -12.369 yards de-stashed

oops, way back in the red!

Stash Report July 8, 2018

OK a few months since my last report! But I have a lot of movement in my numbers this time.

All the finishes in this post add up to…

Red Kerchief: 0.125 yds
Thomas Pillowcase: 0.5 yds
Hufflepuff Pillowcase: 1.25 yds
Window Seat cushion: 3.75 yds
Slytherin Pillow: 2 yds

I bought all the fabric I needed to make the two Harry Potter pillowcases, plus I saw some cute things in the fabric bin:

So here’s the breakdown

Used this Week: 7.625 yards

Used year to Date: 20.985 yards

Added this Week: 4.917 yards

Added Year to Date: 25.687 yards

Net for 2018: -4.702 yards de-stashed

Well, at least it’s not 7 yards in the red like last time!

Few Random Finishes

Just a few random finishes, not really quilt related but they did help me get some fabric out of my stash.

First, I made a window seat cushion for my boyfriend’s daughter. I was able to get rid of a lot of leftover batting I have laying around as well as a few yards of fabric, so I’m very pleased about that. I also made her a matching pillow with Slytherin and black fabric:

Next, I made a pillowcase for my boyfriend, also Harry Potter themed but Hufflepuff this time:

I really love how it turned out and he loves it, too! I also made him a handkerchief for father’s day with some fabric I had in my stash. Also, I made my son a pillowcase using some hand-me-down fabric and a bit from my stash.

His bed is now fully Thomas the Tank Engine. He loves it!

I usually don’t do a lot of this kind of sewing so it was fun to finish a few little projects. I really enjoyed making the Hufflepuff pillowcase so I want to try and make more of those in the future.

I’m still plugging away at my to-do list:

  1. Quilt for baby boy 3: I’ve finished piecing the top of the “>Meet Cute Quilt. Now I need to choose a backing, quilt and bind!
  2. Quilt for C: I have decided on a pattern from a book.
  3. Quilt for baby girl 2: I’m making the Diagonal Strip Quilt from Cluck Cluck Sew
  4. Mike’s T-shirt quilt
  5. The Lattice quilt tutorial when I pre-ordered the ombre confetti jelly roll from V and Co.

Thanks for stopping by!

Stash Report May 6, 2018

No quilt finishes for me this week but I have started working on the Meet Cute Quilt from the Moda Bake Shop Blog.

I also bought some new fabric. Up first: the famous ombre confetti fabric by V and Co!

I pre-ordered the jelly roll and it came with a pattern for a quilt I’m excited to make. I also got this fat quarter bundle during another one of FatQuarterShop’s flash sales:

I don’t have any plans for the fabric yet but I think it’s so cute! Let’s take a look at my to do list:

  1. Quilt for baby boy 3: This is the Meet Cute Quilt.

I’ve made a LOT of progress since the beginning of the year! I had eight quilts on my list at the beginning of the year, I’ve finished three quilts, dropped one and added one. I feel pretty good about that.

Unfortunately, my fabric splurges have really messed with my stash numbers this week. I plan on finishing the Meet Cute Quilt this month, unfortunately it used mostly scraps so it won’t show much movement in my numbers.

Used this Week: 0 yards

Used year to Date: 13.36 yards

Added this Week: 7.27 yards

Added Year to Date: 20.77 yards

Net for 2018: -7.41 yards de-stashed

Indigo Triangles Quilt Finish

When I first saw this quilt, I really admired the colors and the pattern seemed simple enough. Upon further inspection, all the matching points started to make me nervous. I’ve never been really good at matching points or seams, if I’m being honest. But I decided I wanted to try and push my boundaries, push my limits, and I’m glad I did. It forced me to be a little more careful and deliberate with my worth rather than the loosey-goosey, fly by the seat of my pants approach I’ve used until now.

When I initially cut all the triangles, I had these which I shared on instagram…

When I put the triangles on my design wall, it was a disaster.

I decided that there were too many printed blue fabrics, so I dove back into my stash and got some more that were closer to solids. The result was much better, in my opinion. The result is less indigo than my inspiration picture but I worked with what I had and I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.

The quilt finished 41″x43″.

I did straight line quilting along the triangles and I’m really happy with how it turned out. It looks really sharp.

I used a bunch of the left over scraps from the front and some of the rejected triangles on the backing. I even used some leftover triangles from Blue Diamonds. It looks really scrappy and maybe a little crazy, but I was happy to use up the scraps.

Check out that pretty blue polka dot binding! Over all I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. On to the next!

Foundation Paper Pieced Baby Girl Quilt

I started this quilt last year on a whim when I saw a tutorial for paper pieced blocks making its way around the internet. You can find the tutorial here. I had so much fun piecing these blocks, I’d like to do another one of these quilts in the future.

I finished putting the top together back in January, but put it on the shelf so I could put together another quilt for a baby shower I was invited to. Then I started on another quilt for a baby that was already born. That quilt ended up being Indigo Triangles. Now, the baby that this quilt is intended for is set to make her entrance into the world in the next couple of weeks, so I decided to quilt & bind it at the same time as I quilted & bound Indigo Triangles. Here’s the finished product.

The quilt finished at 41″ square.

I did a simple all over stipple for the quilting.

Here’s a peek at the back. I had enough yardage that I didn’t have to piece a backing for once, which helped this come together much more quickly.

Here’s a closer look at some of the blocks. I had fun fussy cutting with the centerpieces. The snoopy, skunk, little girl and yellow rose are my favorites.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by! I’m linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish it Up Friday!
