English Language is the Hardest Language to Learn

Last night Mike and I were on the couch together, as usual. He was watching whatever tripe happened to be on television, and I was continuing my forge through the Jane Austen bookset my Mom got me for Christmas. I’ve finished Persuasion and Northanger Abbey, and I’m in the middle of Mansfield Park right now. Sometimes Mike enjoys it when I read to him, so I began reading him a passage from the book, during the part where the Bertrams and the Crawfords are preparing to perform the play, Lover’s Vows. I can’t remember the exact passage, but in the middle of it he interrupted with:

“Is this like, English?” in the most sincere tone possible.

At first I was unsure what to make of it, but I immediately burst forth laughing. He meant to ask if it was written in old English, but the result was so ditzy I couldn’t help but giggle at him. He soon realized what he said and joined me, but his ears turned red with embarrassment.

He’s my special boy. 🙂
